Emotions are conscious mental reactions such as anger or fear. Our beloved prophet Muhammad saw warned people and said that when they come to you and you give them a verdict, make sure you don’t fall into their emotions. Quran is actually very concerned about the emotions, feelings and sadness of the people. As Allah swt mentioned in Quran
(:۱۹ ۱۴ ) ویشِف ُصدورر قیوم مومنین
Quran tells us that sometimes our own emotions, feelings are actually the sizeable endangerment to ourselves
Allah SWT says in Quran ayat no (79:40)
َن َھی ِ َف م َقام َرَبِہ و َما م َن َخا َ َوا
Translation: the one who fears from standing In front of his creator ,and was able to stop their self from running into the feelings after the other like they stopped their impulse from dictating all their actions.
As we human beings by and large we have a feeling we just want to act onto it. Prophet peace be upon him said the following for being away From the false trap of emotions
- The first warning is when you give anyone their judgment don’t make your judgments bend to their feelings.
- Don’t fall in their whims.
- They will put you into trials regarding what something Allah has revealed to you don’t be in the false trap of emotions
- They will sometimes start testing you
Surah Nisa tell us that if one can stay away from these kind a major sins then the smaller ones Allah will overlook. But we people do smaller good deeds to hold on the major sins
And then we whisper to ourselves by saying "since I am doing these smaller good deeds then these majors Allah will overlook that because at least I understood their emotions, I made him or her comfortable at least, I made no judgments. Like we decided that what part of word of almighty Allah we are going to offer Allah is upon us, No! My dear brothers and sisters, that’s not how the religion works, if you and I follow our emotions, we will fall into a false trap that will continue to bind us to a tremendous pressure of heart break, anxiety disorders, and this actually redefines our entire relationship to Allah. Our religion actually cared about their emotions and feelings as Quran mentions again and again that make sure not to follow your emotions “you sometimes get negative feedback and you sulk in sadness, Greif and you live in anxiety, roaming thoughts over and over what happens next and if it will be ok or not.
Emotions are highly conditional that they are the uncontrolled automatic reactions. Now, it’s the time to shine the light of awareness on our own emotions. Emotions have a power until you become fully aware of your inner circumstances. Emotional will rule as they have a power. When you follow them, you can rather be resisting Or accepting, you can certainly choose to respond from clarity and intelligence instead of rushing upon the emotions. So know these feelings are temporary and you can let them go, they don’t have to dry to define you. Moment after moment, you can define your relationship to Allah you can find place in you not free of emotions but being free from the false trap of it, when you do, you can live with intelligence and bravery.
You want to be happy? Don’t follow your emotions, don’t buy into what the world tells you is happy, do what’s right.
